Mediation in the sporting world this week, the Australian Cricket Players’ union (the ACA) has asked that Cricket Australia (the governing body for the sport) agrees to mediation in the ongoing dispute over pay.

There have been threats not to pay players unless they accepted the controversial new pay structure and the prospect of Australia not being able to field a team for August’s test series against Bangladesh.

Alistair Nicholson of the ACA said “despite these threats, the players affirm their offer to participate in independent mediation"

Meanwhile in Denver, Colorado, Governor John Hickenlooper has signed off on a law allowing mediation for anyone seeking disclosure of government held records.

As with any dispute court is still an expensive option if the authority denies access so it is anticipated many will take advantage of the costs and stress saving approach of mediation.
